Programmes


A large part of NIR’s operations entail long term programmes aimed to improve structural conditions that constitute obstacles for a conducive business environment in the respective targeted markets. A majority of the programmes are co-funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida).

Private Sector Development Programme, Belarus
A collaboration between NIR and two Belarusian private sector organisations in order to strengthen the private sector and contribute to economic development in Belarus. The collaboration includes capacity development and experience sharing with Swedish experts and organisations.

Labour Market Dialogue Programme, Colombia
A joint effort by NIR, the Swedish unions LO and TCO and the Colombian counterparts ANDI, CUT, CTC and CGT. The programme aims to improve the relations and the dialogue between the employers’ and the labour organisations in Colombia as a means to benefit economic development as well as to strengthen a culture of negotiation in a country plagued by violent confrontation.

Cooperation with the DPR Korea
The cooperation provides new knowledge of economics and international trade in the DPR Korea as a way to support economic development. The project aims to enhance the understanding about theories, values and rules that govern international trade and market economy. NIR offers trainings and exchange through seminars, case studies and study visits both in Sweden and the DPR Korea. 

Cooperation with Myanmar
NIR is initiating a project that aims to support economic and democratic development in Myanmar. The project will provide capacity building and share knowledge in areas such as market economy, sustainable business and negotiation skills. Activities include interactive workshops and seminars, studies and exchange of visits to Sweden and Myanmar. 

Palestine International Business Forum (PIBF)
A private sector organisation that gathers private sector actors from Palestine, Israel and Sweden, joined by the common belief that business is good for peace and peace is good for business. By promoting initiatives that support sustainable economic growth in Palestine, PIBF contributes to a peaceful and prosperous Middle East. Read more

Swedish Private Sector Initiative on Corporate Environmental Sustainability (SPICES)
An initiative aiming to enhance environmental performance across the supply chain of selected product groups within the textile and engineering sectors, through structured cooperation between bilateral ex-perts and exchange of best practices. Read more

Swedish Workplace HIV and AIDS Programme (SWHAP)
A joint initiative by NIR and the Swedish Industrial and Metalworkers’ Union (IF Metall) primarily aimed at supporting companies and employees to reverse the spread of HIV and reduce the effects of the pandemic at Swedish related workplaces in Sub-Saharan Africa. Read more

The Sweden/Zimbabwe Private Sector Collaboration (SWEZIM-PSC)
A private sector development initiative aimed at enhancing unity in the private sector and to strengthen the “voice of business” in Zimbabwe as a means to support economic recovery and growth in the country.
