The issues of productivity, remuneration and working conditions are often contentious and a source of conflict. Negotiation mechanisms and conflict resolution are underdeveloped in many countries and both employers and workers may be lacking in experience and knowledge of their respective roles, rights and responsibilities. Competitiveness, human development and social stability may be severely affected. Building joint platforms between the parties in the labour market and establishing forums for social dialogue, the Swedish model for bipartite understanding and multi-stakeholder dialogue can serve as foundation to address these challenges. Together with Swedish labour unions and mutual peers in various countries, NIR has developed several successful and long-lived partnerships.
