About

The International Council of Swedish Industry – Näringslivets Internationella Råd (NIR) – is an independent affiliation of the Confederation of Swedish Enterprise, Sweden’s major business organisation, representing more than 55 000 member companies.

NIR's mission involves working in close relationship with major companies in Sweden and abroad, potential business partners, private sector organisations as well as governments and government agencies. The overall aim is to contribute to new business opportunities, often in a long-term perspective, in markets with difficult and complex political and commercial conditions.

NIR was originally established by Dr. Marcus Wallenberg Jr in 1960 as a business forum for deliberations concerning Sweden’s relations with the EEC, the predecessor of the European Union. NIR took its present lines of operation in the mid 1970s when the international business environment gradually came to require increased cooperation between companies in order to face new challenges, political as well as ones related to public opinion.

In 2006, NIR once again refined and focused its mission, however still in line with our traditional ideals and values.
